If you are thinking of setting up shop then one important job needed is to do the shop fitting. Ths is best left to experts like shopfitting London, but read on below for an example of an energetic and enthusiastic man describing how he had a career change and started up a business almost entirely by himself.
At 43, former solicitor Steve Martin initiated his own sandwich bar business. In spite of the challenge and long hours, he has discovered that it is very rewarding to set up and manage one’s own business. He particularly enjoyed planning and organising the shop fitting.
“Timing it right is crucial as it assists in keeping costs down to a minimum. You start sealing the deal on March 21st that is when you get the key to open up your shop unit with the plan that you will be out in the market place by May 21st. You get up early and work incredibly hard throughout March and April receiving quotes, selecting suppliers, planning and drawing out the layout and ordering and purchasing equipment. You have decided that it should take a complete month to do the fitting out the shop.
With that in mind you plan your opening party for May 21st. There is one problem, however, you have omitted to do one small but important job and that is ordering the refrigeration unit that will contain and display your home made sandwiches, salad plates and drinks. You after a while, find the time in last week of April. Your main supplier seems rather shocked when you tell him you wish to open for business on May 21st but he says it should be possible to organize. A mild sense of panic engrosses your mind, but you are far too busy with other matters.
Some days later the supplier calls you to say that the refrigeration unit, which is being constructed in Italy, may be late arriving. There’s been a few industrial problem at the main factory and the delivery date has been delayed until sometime in June.
Getting into a state of panic is seriously on the agenda now. Suddenly everything that you have been dealing with to so confidently gets forgotten. Each minute of the day is now focused on this problem.
As the scheduled opening day gets closer it appears that everything else will be just about ready at the right time. But it is not possible to actually open in the absence of the refrigerated display unit. So what is the option? Go about cancelling the order and attempt in desperation to find one from elsewhere, maybe a nearly new one to tied yourself over. And what are you going to do about the new staff who you have asked to start on the opening day? And, the money too. You told your bank manager that income from your business will start to flow on you assure the bank manager that by the end of the 3rd week in June income would be moving in his bank’s direction.
There is not really much that can be done to speed up the process. All that will eventually happen is that the café will open even if it rather later than advertised. The lesson to be learnt is not to be too leisurely when planning especially if it is important to get it right.”
